INTRODUCTION TO THE CENTRAL AFRICAN CFA FRANC
The Central African CFA franc was introduced in 1945 in the French colonies of Equatorial Africa, replacing the French Equatorial African franc. The colonies which used the CFA franc were: Chad, French Cameroon, French Congo, Gabon and Ubanghi-Shari. When they gained their independence from France they continued used the CFA franc as official currency*. It is used by approximately 45 million one hundred and twenty thousand people.
