The first Azerbaijani manat was issued in 1919 and it has been circulating until 1923. When the Republic of Azerbaijan became a part of the Soviet Socialist Republics, the manat was replaced by the Russian rouble (RUR). In 1992, the Russian rouble was replaced by the second Azerbaijani manat (AZN), until the new Azerbaijani manat was introduced in 2006.
