The Barbados dollar was introduced in 1972 and it was linked to the U.S. dollar in 1975. Since 1848 the currency of Barbados was the British Sterling pound until it was linked to dollar in 1882. In 1949 the dollar was introduced in the British West India, which in 1965 was replaced by the Eastern Caribbean’s dollar. It is used by approximately 276 thousand people.
